Module 1E-10 Story Time

As the conditions in Medina became more favourable for the Muslims to move there, Rasulullah (s) migrated from Mecca in the year 622 AD.

He left Imam Ali (a) behind in order for him to return all the monies, animals and trusts that various people had entrusted him with. On the night of the migration, Imam Ali (a) slept in the bed of Rasulullah (s). His enemies did not know that Rasulullah (s) had already left Mecca, and they planned to attack and kill him in his sleep. Imam Ali (a) bravely completed the noble task assigned to him, and slept in Rasulullah’s (s) bed the whole night.

After a couple of days, he set off together with some of the women folk including Sayyidah Fatimah (a) and his mother Sayyidah Fatimah bint Asad, towards Medina.

Rasulullah (s) was waiting for him in the town of Quba, which is about three miles away from Medina. Some of the companions of Rasulullah (s) pressured him to leave Quba and enter Medina
so that they could be safer; however, he refused to do so without Imam Ali (a). It took a few days for Imam Ali (a) to join Rasulullah (s) in Quba. Together, they set off and entered Medina on a Friday.

It is narrated that he offered the first salat al-jumu‘ah with his companions on that day, in the area of the Bani Salim tribe. He recited two khutbahs: the first was about adopting taqwa, and the second was to prepare them politically for the first Islamic government. These eloquent sermons had a deep impression on the hearts of the people.
